A cooling tower is also called a evaporative heat rejection device, which works to extract the waste heat to the atmosphere by cooling a water stream to a lower temperature. Evaporative is the term used for describing the kind of heat rejection in a cooling tower. This tower allows the cooling of small portion of water, so that it can evaporate into a moving air stream and provide greater cooling to the rest of the water stream. The water stream generates heat which is transferred to the air stream. This rises the temperature of the air as well as humidity to 100%. This air is then discharged to the atmosphere. Cooling tower can be used to provide cooled water for manufacturing, generation of electric power in power plant and air conditioning. The small cooling tower can be used in homes for handling the water streams of few gallons of water per minute supplied in small pipes.
